I am not an apparel sewist. But over the stay-at-home pandemic days I started following a lady on instagram who made quilted coats using the Tamarack pattern.
She sells hers for about $800-$1000… very reasonable for the craftsmanship- but I couldn’t fathom spending that on something I knew I could do it if I gave it some effort.
Or better yet, if I took a class and suffered through with a teacher and classmates. Urban Spools had a multi-week class teaching the Tamarack and I signed up!
Making the jacket myself was better than purchasing as I was able to use fabrics that I absolutely love. So this quilted coat is a love letter to myself from many of my past projects as the fabrics in this were from quilts made in the past.
This is one of my most prized possessions.
