I very rarely take on a commission quilt. But when the father of this HATS senior asked me to do a bandanna quilt using bandannas that he and his daughter had worn on their various campouts over the last many years, I could not say ‘no’. I was very interested in the challenge of using the bandanna medium and wanted to make a truly memorable quilt.
I supplemented the bandannas with strips of Rifle Paper Co Bramble line. I thought Bramble was a good addition because it is all wildflowers and nods to the theme of outdoors and camping.
I started with a pile of bandannas and a pile of strips and set to work. I tried a few color ideas before landing on the blocks you see here.
Because some of the bandannas were very cool, not cut up I left them as they were – the Texas bandanna and the one that has all the safety information. The pink block has the main HATS T-shirt logo.
It was a beast to put together but I had a very good time. I would make another… someday… in many years…once I recover from this one.
